11/10 experience! This salon was clean and the staff was nice and efficient. I’ve been to many salons and this was the most thorough hair wash and scalp massage I’ve ever had. And Curly was just amazing! I had the best experience with him. He listened and took his time to get my cut as precise and perfect as possible. He also gave me styling tips and got my pin straight hair to look voluminous like I wanted. Glad I found my new go to spot, and for my cut to be under $100 with tip is unheard of in New York.

Jill is a magician!! The New York winter and water had killed my curls, but Jill brought them back to life. So very professional and taught me about my hair and styling, while also keeping my preferences top of mind. The space is clean and modern, and the Self team were so wonderful.

I couldn't have gone to a better salon to get my starter locs done. I had a great experience with Rosey. She's such a sweetheart. They allowed me to stretch when needed and I was also able to buy a beverage from their fridge when I got thirsty. The salon is very clean and organized. 10/10 experience!

I was greeted and offered a beverage while I waited. Aesthetically the salon is chic and beautiful. My stylist Patrice was amazing. She was patient, asked questions and made great suggestions for my at home hair maintenance. I immediately booked another appointment. Can’t wait!

I’ve been going to Kat for years! She is an excellent stylist. Recently she styled my long locs for my wedding and it was perfect. I told her how I wanted to feel and showed her my dress and she worked her magic. What I appreciate about Kat the most, aside from her hair expertise, is her vision. Kat has style. She knows what looks good. I can trust her ideas and I don’t have to always have it all figured out. I love that about her. Lastly, she also is an excellent colorist. In the early days of my locs, she would do all my wild colors (blondes, red, dark blue etc.).

Have been going to Self since 2015 and I’ve always been happy. I’m low maintenance, and I’ve bounced around with whatever stylist could see me when I needed it. But these days I’m really really happy Jill B is on staff, she’s my person now! 5 stars for sure.

I went to Art Room for the first time today and had double process root maintenance with Sandra. She did such an amazing job! She did exactly what I asked for and could not have been more pleased! The salon itself is clean, cozy and stylish. Sandra and her assistant was super friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place.

Keisha was divine timing to encounter on my loc journey! Not to mention she had free space a day before July 4 in the am and took me being a new customer which is unheard of in this present time! I been looking for a little while now for a reliable backup Loctician and I believe I have a solid Loctician who follows up on all the appointments and timing on point! I received the wash retwist and style combo which was fire!!! Also the price can’t beat! The customer service were as you do 9/10 retwist and receive a freebie is a 1000% creative and shows the appreciation to their clients! Repeat!!!

I walked in spontaneously, from out of town, and having wanted to cut my hair and change my style for a while but not knowing where to go since my stylist moved last year. I read the reviews, requested a consultation, and took the plunge! I was not disappointed. Onur spent time talking with me and we came to agreement on the style (a chic chin length bib with slight texturizing). My hair was long, between my shoulders and elbows, so this was a big change! Onur did a great job. I am very happy with the result and wish I hadn’t waited so long. You’ll be in good hands in a welcoming place.
