A personal trainer is a professionally qualified fitness coach who creates bespoke fitness programmes for their individual clients based on each client’s personal goals (e.g. weight loss, muscle gain). How often you have a personal training session will be dictated by your goals and what you can afford. A single session a week could be plenty, but if you’re new to exercise you may want to start off with 2-3 weekly sessions to help you develop your form and get a sustainable routine.

In the U.S. for example, most personal trainers need AED and CPR certifications. In the UK, personal trainers need a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification, and a First Aid certificate.
