Collect payments using a card terminal during the point of sale
In this guide, you’ll learn how to take in-person payments quickly and securely using a card terminal.
How using a card terminal works
Fresha card terminals let you collect in-person payments directly at the point of sale. The terminal automatically connects to your workspace and displays the total amount due at checkout. Clients can tap, insert their card, or use a digital wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay to complete the payment.
Once the transaction is approved, the payment syncs instantly with your account, ensuring all records are accurate in real time.
Collect payment at checkout using a card terminal
- To create a new sale, you can either raise a new sale or select Checkout from an appointment and make any adjustments to the cart.
- In the right panel of the cart view, click on the Continue to payment button at the bottom.
- In the left panel, under Payment methods, select Card terminal, then the Pay now button at the bottom.
- Ask the client to insert, tap, or use their digital wallet on the card terminal to complete the payment.
- When the client has made a payment, your page will refresh with the completed sale.
If your card terminal supports receipt printing, the completed sale will generate a receipt automatically.
As a shortcut, the Pay now button when checking out same-day appointments will show the Terminal option during checkout.

Card details can’t be entered manually on a Fresha card as payments are processed in person using chip and PIN, contactless, or digital wallets.
An in-person processing fee applies to each payment made using a card terminal at the point of sale. You can review all payment processing fees on our pricing page.
Payments collected through your card terminal can be viewed in your Payments transaction, Payments summary, and Finance summary reports. You can also view the total amount of sales, refunds, tips, and cancellations directly on your card terminal by selecting the Transactions icon (two arrows), choosing Totals, entering PIN 3773, and tapping the Confirm button (tick icon).
You can process split payments using a Fresha card terminal along with another payment method. At checkout, select Split payment, then choose Card terminal for one part of the payment and your preferred alternative method for the other. Card terminals don’t support two separate card payments for a single appointment.
Clients can leave a tip when paying by card terminal, as long as tipping is enabled in your settings. You can adjust or update this in your tip settings at any time.
Service charges can be added to the appointment directly from your workspace before checkout. Once added, the charge is automatically included in the total cost when you process the payment using your Fresha card terminal.
Fresha card terminals support card payments of up to 99,999.99 in your local currency when the card is inserted. Each client’s bank may also set its own transaction limits. Contactless payment limits are determined by the card issuer and can’t be changed from your card terminal. If the amount exceeds the limit, the client can complete the payment by inserting their card and entering their PIN.
