How collecting consent works

Under GDPR, you need explicit consent from clients before sending them marketing materials via SMS or email. You must be able to prove that clients have agreed to receive these messages, whether they are new or existing customers. If clients were automatically opted-in before May 25, 2018, they must re-consent to continue receiving communications. Consent should be separate from your privacy policy, and clients must be able to revoke it at any time.

Recording marketing consent

You can choose which channels you want to use to send marketing messages to a client from their client profile. Clients separately control whether they want to receive marketing from your business.

Marketing messages are only sent through a channel when you’ve enabled it and the client is subscribed. If a client unsubscribes from marketing from your business, they need to update their own Notification preferences in order to receive marketing from your business again.

To update a client’s  preferences in their profile:

  1. Open Clients and select Clients list.
  2. Click on the client to open their profile.
  3. Select Actions, then choose Edit client details.
  4. Click on Settings and scroll down to Marketing notifications.
  5. Check the boxes to choose which channels you want to use to send marketing messages to the client.
  6. Click Save.

Clients can also update their preferences directly through their Notification preferences. Once they make changes, you won't be able to override their choices.

Service-related messages like appointment reminders do not require additional consent if they are covered under your privacy policy.

FAQs

    • You can review your clients’ marketing preferences by downloading your client list. The export includes dedicated columns called Accepts marketing and Accepts SMS marketing, making it easy to see which clients are opted in or out of marketing communications.

Downloading your client list is the best way to access this information and keep your marketing preferences up to date.
