Set up payments as a sole trader, sole proprietor, or freelancer
Get started with Fresha payments quickly and easily, whether you’re self-employed, a sole proprietor, or a freelancer. Learn how to set up payments using either your personal or business bank account.
Getting started
To set up Fresha payments, you'll need to provide specific documents and details about yourself and your business. Although you can save your progress as you go, it’s helpful to have the following ready:
- Proof of identification in your personal name.
- Proof of banking for either your personal or business account.
- Business details for accurate processing.
Confirming your account type
When setting up Fresha payments as a sole trader, sole proprietor, or freelancer, the correct account type will be automatically selected for you. This indicates that you’re a registered sole proprietor and that you use a bank account in your name or your business’s name.
If this doesn’t match your situation, you can switch to a company account type by selecting the Account type tab.
Adding personal details
Your personal details must match the information on your proof of identity document, such as a passport or driving license.
To add your personal details, continue from signing up or:
- Open Add-ons.
- Under Payments, select View and then Continue.
- Check that the account type is set as Sole trader, Sole proprietor, or Freelancer.
- Click on Personal details and enter the following:
- First name
- Last name
- Date of birth
- Email address
- Mobile number
- Add your residential address for tax and reporting purposes, then click Continue.
- Choose your form of identification and review the guidelines to make sure your document is valid, then click Continue.
- Upload your proof of identity by selecting Choose a file or by dragging and dropping the document into the box.
- Review and confirm your document, then click Continue.
You can replace or crop your uploaded image by selecting the pencil icon.
Adding business details
To verify your business, you’ll need to provide accurate information.
To add your business details, continue from adding personal details or:
- Open Add-ons.
- Under Payments, select View and then Continue.
- Select Business details and enter your business name and the requested information.
- Enter the address where your business is registered.
- Click Save.
Make sure that the company name matches exactly with the one on your bank statement and Companies House.
Adding your bank account details
Add and verify your bank account details, which must be in either your name or your business's name, depending on where you want to receive funds.
To add your bank account details, continue from adding business details or:
- Open Add-ons.
- Under Payments, select View and then Continue.
- Ensure the account type is set as Sole trader, Sole proprietor, or Freelancer.
- Click on Bank account and enter:
- Sort code
- Account number
- Upload an image of your full-page bank statement under your personal name, making sure it meets the guidelines, by selecting Choose a file or by dragging and dropping the document into the box.
- Click Continue.
Submitting your application
Once all your details are added, submit your application for review, verification, and approval by our payment provider, Adyen. This process usually takes up to 48 hours.
To submit your application, continue from adding your bank account details or:
- Open Add-ons.
- Under Payments, select View and then Continue.
- Make sure each section is accurately completed:
- Account type
- Personal details
- Business details
- Bank account
- Click Submit.
You can check your verification progress by clicking on your Business wallet icon. If further information is needed, you’ll see a notification under your account.
