Update messaging settings for Client Connect
Learn how to adjust Client Connect settings for your business, including team access and notifications.

Turn Client Connect on or off
- From the main menu on the left of your screen, go to Settings.
- Click on Clients and select Messages from the menu on the left.
- Click on the Enable or Disable button under the current client messaging status to turn it on or off.
When Client Connect is turned off, clients can’t start new conversations and your team can’t send messages. Your existing chat history remains available if you turn it back on.
When Client Connect is turned on, clients can message you from their booking in the Fresha client app, and your team can reply from the Messages inbox.
Update Client Connect message settings

From the main menu on the left of your screen, go to Settings.

Click on Clients and select Messages from the menu on the left.

Click Edit in the top right corner of the settings section.

Tick or untick the checkboxes to manage how messaging works for your clients:
- Display contact button after confirming an appointment: allows clients to message you after booking.
- Allow read receipts: let clients see when you’ve read their messages.
- Allow typing indicator: shows clients when you’re typing a reply.

Click on the Save button in the top right to apply the settings.
Once saved, your selected settings will apply to client messaging straight away.
Set team permissions for client messages
Decide who on your team can see and reply to client messages through team permissions.
There are two permissions control access to Client Connect:
- Access client chats: lets the team member view all client conversations, including message history and attachments.
- Reply to client chats: lets the team member send replies and start new conversations with clients.
- From the main menu on the left of your screen, go to Settings.
- Click on the Team category to access permission settings.
- Select the permission group you want to edit, or click on the Add permission group button to create a new one.
- Under Client Messaging, tick the checkbox next to each permission you want to grant.
- Click on the Save button in the top right to update the permission group.
Team members in the updated group see the new permissions the next time they sign in. Team members without the Access client chats permission don't see the Messages inbox at all.
Manage Client Connect notifications
You can manage how your team is notified about client messages. Each team member can update their own notification preferences from their personal profile, including enabling notifications for Client messages.
You can also manage how clients receive messages by updating their notification settings in their client profile. Clients can be notified in-app, by text message, or by email. Make sure their profile includes a valid email address and mobile number.
Clients can also choose their own notification preferences in the Fresha client app.
FAQs
Your existing chat history stays saved. While Client Connect is off, clients can't message you and your team can't send or receive new messages. Turn it back on and your chat history is available again straight away.
Use permission groups to grant Access client chats and Reply to client chats independently. For example, a front-of-house team member might be able to view and reply to chats, while a stylist can view chats but not reply.
If you don't see the Messages icon in your toolbar, you may not have the Access client chats permission. Speak to a workspace owner who can update your permission group.
Clients always receive an in-app notification in the Fresha client app when you send them a message, so they don't miss anything important. They can manage email and text message preferences in their account settings.
Once a team member saves their notification preferences, the same settings apply on every device they sign into.
Client Connect settings apply at the workspace level. Use team permissions to control which team members at each location can access and reply to chats.
