International Women’s Day 2024

Did you know, women-owned businesses make up around 75% of hair and beauty companies and 63% of wellness companies?

For International Women’s Day we want to recognise and uplift our female partners, and celebrate the ways they’re pushing the boundaries within this industry and making incredible changes to their communities.

So what better way to celebrate them than to get to know the women-owned businesses that we’ve met through our time on Meet the Partners - our video series focussing on the incredible business owners that use Fresha.

Each of them are making incredible changes to the beauty and wellness industry, and having a massive impact in their communities through their businesses.

Meet Scarlet and Alice, founders of Masaj

On the importance of creating a safe space within the city

Scarlet and Alice started Masaj after realising there was a big gap in the London market for a massage studio that focused on creating a safe and comforting environment so people can get away from the stress of the city.

“We want people to feel held from the moment they book a treatment” Scarlet said “It's about holding space for people, and giving them that chance to sit down in front of their therapists and have somebody look them in the eye and say: How are you doing today? What do you need?”.

But that doesn’t come easy. “It involves a huge amount of trust from all sides. To come to a business and feel comfortable enough to put yourself in the hands of someone you’ve not met before".

Scarlet and Alice have worked hard to create that space, and it’s worked. They now have three studios across London, and continue to grow.

Meet Dailey Greene, owner of H2 Salon

On helping women embrace their natural hair texture

H2 Salon is located in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, where there’s now a high concentration of Black-owned and women-owned business. But when H2 first opened “there was a need, it was a very niche market, for women who had been relaxing their hair were looking to transition into their natural hair.”

“That’s the joy of me doing my work. Having a woman come in that has never experienced her own hair. I think that's the teacher in me, the one that says: here are the steps you can take to have great hair".

"That’s why I got into this. It’s a really safe space for women with textured hair”.

Meet Katie White, founder of re:lax

On helping clients feel comfortable in their skin

Katie’s inspiration for opening re:lax was from her own experience with her skin. She says “I know what it’s like to struggle with your skin. Helping people with something they might feel very self-conscious or even depressed about is just wonderful.”

She tells us “I went to my GP and I just felt like nobody was getting to the root cause of my problems which I felt were not skincare, but stress and diet. So I left my job and retrained as a nutritionist and a facialist.”

“I started re:lax in 2019 because there was a space for a salon that had a 360° approach to skincare. That takes into account nutrition and lifestyle”.

Katie continues helping others get comfortable in their own skin. “Before treatments we ask clients to share their current skin condition, the products they’re using and any allergies so we can be super prepared before they come in.” By doing so re:lax helps their clients understand their skin on another level and grow to feel confident in it again.

Meet Jeana, founder of Bombshell Blow Dry Bar

On making women feel confident

We spoke to Jeana last summer about her passion making her clients feel uplifted and empowered when they step out of the salon.

Bombshell Blow Dry Bar began as a dream – literally. Founder Jeana woke up one morning with a crystal clear idea of the salon she wanted to build: a chic, inviting space where beauty meets confidence.

“Our biggest focus in this place is making sure our clients feel better within themselves”.

Jeana built Bombshell Blow Dry Bar to be a haven where her clients feel empowered and welcomed. She tells us “we’re here to uplift our clients. We want everyone to walk out with renewed confidence.”

Based in Penrith, Australia, the salon is an open and welcoming space, full of happy clients getting transformative beauty treatments.
