What are the different types of hair treatments?

Some of the most popular types of hair treatments include: Keratin – smooths and straightens curly or frizzy hair for up to 3 months. This treatment is also known as the Brazilian Blowout. Scalp – the go-to indulgence for improving itchy, flaky scalps. Hot oil – this salon treatment can transform dry and damaged hair into shiny, silky locks. Moisture – deeply nourishing, a quality moisture treatment can boost the look and health of dry and heat damaged hair. Detox – cleanses your hair from product and other impurities, improving the overall health of your hair and scalp. Some detox hair treatments can even stimulate hair growth. Relaxing – used to reduce and control curl and frizz, the results of relaxing treatments should last until your hair grows out. Toning – these treatments are for dyed hair and can help to neutralise warm or brassy tones, reinvigorate colour vibrancy, and add gloss. Glossing – leaves you with high-shine locks that can last for weeks.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with hair transplant surgery?

Yes, you’re likely to have scarring in the area(s) your graft(s) were taken. Your scalp may become sore and swell a few days after your transplant, and you’ll probably experience some scabbing. There’s also risk of bleeding, infection, and an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic.

What should I expect during a hair treatment appointment?

What your hair stylist does during a treatment will be dictated by the treatment you choose. Your treatment may be carried out on washed, unwashed, wet, or dry hair. Ask your stylist before you book your appointment what’s involved in the process and how long it’s likely to take. Applying a detox treatment takes a matter of minutes, hair toning can take between 5-20 minutes, hot oil and moisturising treatments take around 20 minutes, glossing is likely to take between 30 and 40 minutes, and you’ll need to allow 1-2 hours if you’re having your hair relaxed, and 1-3 hours if you’re booked in for a keratin treatment.

How does the hair transplant procedure work?

You’ll be awake during the procedure, but you’ll probably be sedated and given a local anaesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain. You’ll then either have a follicular unit transplant (FUT) or a follicular unit extraction (FUE).

During FUT, your doctor will remove a thin strip of skin with hair on it from the back of your head, cut it into hair grafts (pieces of skin containing 1-4 hairs), and insert it into incisions where you want your hair to grow.
