I went into my appointment feeling blah and was *feeling myself* by the time I left. I can’t give Harix enough praise! He is SO talented and I could not be happier with my cut and color. He is equal parts artist and stylist, which is especially crucial when it comes to curly hair. He also has a wonderful vibe and I immediately felt at ease. This is by far the best hair service I’ve ever received. Harix is truly a curly hair expert and I’m so grateful to have found him! Roots Radicals is also a lovely salon. Everyone there was kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I recommend it to everyone!

It was my first visit and it was lovely. I love my hair, I love the staff, I love my stylist (Lauren), I love the way the products smell, I love the way everything looks inside, I love their organization and the way they handle business. If I wasn't moving next month, this would be my permanent salon, but unfortunately I'm leaving New York. :(

Ruben is the man! I hadn’t gotten a haircut in over two years, so I was a little nervous about making a big change. He took the time to look through my reference photos, asked the right questions, and made sure he understood exactly what I was going for. He absolutely nailed it. He’s great with curly textured hair and beards, and you can tell he really pays attention to the details. I walked out feeling fresh, confident, and honestly better than I expected. Jill is a magician!! The New York winter and water had killed my curls, but Jill brought them back to life. So very professional and taught me about my hair and styling, while also keeping my preferences top of mind. The space is clean and modern, and the Self team were so wonderful.

Kevin is a wonderful stylist. I hadn’t been to Roots Radicals before and was happy I made the appointment. Kevin went over the various options for my medium-length haircut. I recently went grey and he gave me helpful tips to keep it looking its best. I like the cut a lot. It is calmer, less frizzy and feels great. Thanks Kevin!

I had a great experience with Gina. This is my first time getting a short hair cut and she answered every question and made me feel very comfortable and took me through it step by step to the length that I will feel more comfortable in. My experience with Gina was amazing but the lady at the front desk with the long straightened hair was very rude to the stylist in which made me feel uncomfortable. Besides that I had an overall good experience and I love my haircut

Tamia is a true professional. She was on time and very thorough. As a first time curly cut client, she asked me to tell her about my hair and listened to my hair concerns, goals and complaints. She acted on the information I provided and by her assessments. She chose products and haircut accordingly. As a result I am happy with my cut and the services provided. Gaby gave me a great wash and was very sweet and accommodating. Great place. Easy access to MTA. I am looking forward to my next trim. Very happy indeed .

Gina was so amazing! My hair was dead and flat when I came in. She listened to what I wanted out of the haircut and recommended some solutions and did such an amazing job. I can’t recommend her and this salon enough after encountering so many bad salons in Brooklyn. So happy to have FINALLY found a salon I plan on coming back to for future haircuts.

Paul and the whole team at Self were amazing. They have great safety protocol in place and still created a calming salon experience. The haircut from Paul was exactly what I was looking for! As a curly hair person switching your stylist can be scary, but I'll definitely be back!!
