How long does electrolysis take?

A typical session lasts between 15-60 minutes, but the length of time depends on whether the hair is coarse, in-grown or has deeper follicles. It also depends on the area being treated, and the quantity being removed. Your technician should be able to factor this in and give you a more precise timeframe.

Is electrolysis painful?

Yes, particularly if you’re having your upper lip, neck or pelvic area done. You’re likely to feel a stinging sensation or pinch of heat from the electrolysis probe, but the level of pain depends on your pain threshold.

Can electrolysis be done on any part of the body?

Yes; wherever you have unwanted hair, electrolysis can be used to remove it.

How do you care for your skin after electrolysis?

Your practitioner should advise you on aftercare, but you’ll be encouraged to sterilize and soothe your skin with aloe vera, diluted tea tree oil or something similar; and to apply a cold compress to reduce inflammation. Pain relief can be taken if you continue to experience discomfort. You should also avoid the sun, swimming pools, rubbing, scratching and over-touching the treated area immediately after the treatment, and steer clear of make-up, exercise, alcohol-based skin products, and waxing, too. Ask your electrolysis technician to explain in detail what you should and shouldn’t do post treatment.

Is electrolysis better than other hair removal methods?
