Back Waxing FAQs
Back waxing is a hair removal method where hot wax is applied to your back and then removed with a strip of cloth or paper, which also removes back hair from the roots. The treatment is carried out by a licensed esthetician who will use a spatula to apply the wax in small sections on the back, then remove it using the strip of cloth or paper.
Back waxing can be a painful procedure, especially if you have sensitive skin. To minimize discomfort, take a pain reliever like ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment. You should also avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking before the appointment, as these can make your skin more sensitive. Exfoliate your skin 1-2 days before the appointment to help the wax grip the hair better and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. You can also ask your esthetician to use a numbing cream to help reduce pain.
You should aim to get your back waxed every 4-6 weeks. That is roughly how long it takes for the hair to grow back and be long enough to be waxed effectively.
Make sure the hair on your back is at least a quarter of an inch long (0.6cm), so the wax can grip the hair effectively. Avoid sun exposure for at least a day before your treatment, and do not apply any oils or lotions to the area before the appointment. You should also exfoliate the area 1-2 days before the appointment.
Like any waxing treatment, back waxing can cause skin redness, sensitivity, pain, and ingrown hairs. Other possible side effects include wax burns, dermatitis, and severe skin irritation. Make sure to talk to your esthetician about any skin conditions, allergies, or concerns you have before the appointment.
