I love my hair, I love the staff, I love my stylist (Lauren), I love the way the products smell, I love the way everything looks inside, I love their organization and the way they handle business. If I wasn't moving next month, this would be my permanent salon, but unfortunately I'm leaving New York. :(

Carlo is 100% hands down the best out there!! He is so incredibly talented, that you’re actually making a mistake if you’re not already going to him for your cuts. I trust him with my life and, more importantly, my hair.

Jill is a magician!! The New York winter and water had killed my curls, but Jill brought them back to life. So very professional and taught me about my hair and styling, while also keeping my preferences top of mind. The space is clean and modern, and the Self team were so wonderful.

11/10 experience! This salon was clean and the staff was nice and efficient. I’ve been to many salons and this was the most thorough hair wash and scalp massage I’ve ever had. And Curly was just amazing! I had the best experience with him. He listened and took his time to get my cut as precise and perfect as possible. He also gave me styling tips and got my pin straight hair to look voluminous like I wanted. Glad I found my new go to spot, and for my cut to be under $100 with tip is unheard of in New York.

Such a lovely experience. The salon is really nice and Iryna was even nicer and very professional. I did a conditioning treatment and a blow dry and my hair looks amazing. Honestly one of the best blow dries I had in a long time!

It was my first time at Hayato. Although it looked a bit dated, the service was exactly what I was looking for. Great shampoo experience and Mina my hairdresser was a super Japanese stylist. She listened to what you wanted and then offered her opinion. Highly recommend for a true New York Japanese hair salon. Thank you!

Curly always does a great job, and pay attention to details. TOTO Hair staff are always polite and never rude. Love the assistant Jessica that did my daughter's deep conditioning. Have been going there for decades, and bringing my growing up kids there.

Shalayna is amazing! I went to her for the first time a little over four months ago because I wanted a silk press. Instead of just doing the service, she was honest and told me my hair wasn’t in the right condition for it at that time. That immediately impressed me because I want a stylist who genuinely cares about the health of my hair and will recommend what’s best, rather than simply doing what I ask to make a sale. Another flawless return to full platinum hair again today. Andrea Grabher is a fantastic colorist and stylist. She has great attention to detail and ensures my hair is also in the best condition. She’s also great to be around and makes the lengthy process very enjoyable

The studio is an inviting and serene space. Chi took her time explaining what products and styling tips would work for my curly hair. During the shampooing I was given a warming (disposable) eye mask which was a luxurious touch and the scalp massage was soothing . My curls looks bouncy and rejuvenated with my new cut. Jamal, and his assistant Talia, are extremely kind, utterly professional, thorough and an absolute joy with whom to spend the afternoon. Jamal is a wizard with sensitive hair, and fixed my damaged hair so that it looks and feels healthy and amazing!! It was a great blessing to find them; I only wish they were in New Jersey :-) so I shall have to go up to New York many many times in the future!!

I was a walk in. I was warmly welcomed & wonderfully helped. While the stylist finished up with someone, I sat on the comfy couch in the rear of the salon. I was given a consultation after a short time. My hair is curly & it needed to be trimmed and shaped. The results were just what I was hoping for. Thank you Harix of Roots Radicals Williamsburg.

My visit to Self was excellent from start to finish. They were careful to make sure it was a safe experience for everyone involved: everyone wore masks, gloves, wiped down all surfaces constantly, and had hand sanitizer available. And aside from all the COVID-related precautions, I absolutely love my haircut and have gotten so many compliments. Highly recommend Self's line of products, they have the BEST curl gel I've ever used, hands down. Can't recommend this salon enough!
