11/10 experience! This salon was clean and the staff was nice and efficient. I’ve been to many salons and this was the most thorough hair wash and scalp massage I’ve ever had. And Curly was just amazing! I had the best experience with him. He listened and took his time to get my cut as precise and perfect as possible. He also gave me styling tips and got my pin straight hair to look voluminous like I wanted. Glad I found my new go to spot, and for my cut to be under $100 with tip is unheard of in New York.

I love my hair, I love the staff, I love my stylist (Lauren), I love the way the products smell, I love the way everything looks inside, I love their organization and the way they handle business. If I wasn't moving next month, this would be my permanent salon, but unfortunately I'm leaving New York. :(

Shalayna is amazing! I went to her for the first time a little over four months ago because I wanted a silk press. Instead of just doing the service, she was honest and told me my hair wasn’t in the right condition for it at that time. My visit to Self was excellent from start to finish. They were careful to make sure it was a safe experience for everyone involved: everyone wore masks, gloves, wiped down all surfaces constantly, and had hand sanitizer available. And aside from all the COVID-related precautions, I absolutely love my haircut and have gotten so many compliments. Highly recommend Self's line of products, they have the BEST curl gel I've ever used, hands down. Can't recommend this salon enough!

Ainur is incredibly talented and pays amazing attention to detail with every braid she creates. I’ve gone to her multiple times for special events like HYROX competitions and the Pride Parade, where I wanted colorful extensions braided into my natural hair. Wonderful service! Natsumi really took good care of me. She listened to my requests and added some suggestions of her own before starting the haircut. The wash was super relaxing as well. I was a walk in. I was warmly welcomed & wonderfully helped. While the stylist finished up with someone, I sat on the comfy couch in the rear of the salon. Jamal, and his assistant Talia, are extremely kind, utterly professional, thorough and an absolute joy with whom to spend the afternoon. Jamal is a wizard with sensitive hair, and fixed my damaged hair so that it looks and feels healthy and amazing!! Milli/10 experience at Roots!! I had an appointment with Sabrina for loc maintenance and repair. She was so nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. She made me feel very comfortable asking questions and was so welcoming. Everyone at Roots was warm and kind, and the atmosphere is great. I'll be back for sure.
