Unlike other bikini waxing treatments, a Hollywood wax is a hair removal method that uses hard or strip wax to remove all hair from the bikini area and backside.

Is Hollywood waxing painful and how can I minimize discomfort?

Yes. The skin around your intimate area is particularly sensitive, so to minimise the discomfort you may feel during your appointment, you should exfoliate 2 days before your treatment (this helps to ensure the wax grabs your hair, not your skin) and keep your bikini area out of the sun. It’s also recommended that you hydrate your skin by moisturising it regularly (although avoid using oils on the day of your waxing), and avoid booking your appointment during or 3-5 days before your period when your skin is likely to be extra sensitive.

How long does a Hollywood waxing session typically take?

20-40 minutes.

What should I do to prepare for a Hollywood waxing session?

Your pubic hair needs to be long enough for the wax to be effective, so make sure it’s at least one quarter of an inch (0.6cm) long before you attend your appointment. In the 3 days leading up to your Hollywood waxing it’s recommended that you avoid doing anything that could irritate your skin: that means no swimming in chlorinated water, keeping your bikini area free from moisturising oils and out of the sun. You should also avoid booking your Hollywood wax within 3 days of your period, due to skin sensitivity.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with Hollywood waxing?

Yes. The most common side effects include redness, sensitivity, pain, and ingrown hairs. Other reported, but rare, side effects are wax burns, dermatitis, and severe skin irritation.

How often should I get a Hollywood wax and what is the maintenance required?

The hair-free effects of a Hollywood bikini wax should last for 2 weeks. In terms of maintenance, you’ll want to keep your skin smooth, and bump and breakout free, and to do that you’ll need to keep it away from anything that could irritate or infect it. That means no touching your newly waxed skin, staying out of standing water (baths and pools; showers are fine) for 24-48 hours after your treatment, no touching your newly waxed skin, and avoiding heat and sweat (so no full-on exercise, no saunas, and no tanning beds) for 24 hours after your wax.
