What does dry needling actually do?

Dry needling involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin and muscle tissue to reduce muscular and trigger-point pain.

You may also experience dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and an increase in pain for 24-48 hours after your treatment. What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine which has been around for centuries, unlike dry needling which has only been available in recent years. Both acupuncture and dry needling see thin needles inserted into the skin or muscle to treat pain. However, dry needling is only used to treat muscular pain, whereas acupuncture treats a range of physical and psychological conditions, and clears blockages in the body’s energy flow (qi) to improve overall health.

What happens to your body after dry needling?

The insertion of needles stimulates blood flow and cellular repair, however dry needling is likely to cause your muscle to cramp and twitch involuntarily. This is normal, and known as the local twitch response.
