What is an acne facial?

It’s a skin treatment for the face that’s based on a classic facial but reworked in a way that aims to reduce the symptoms of acne.

How does it work?

Acne facials exclude procedures that could exacerbate acne symptoms, and use products and treatments that lower your skin’s oil production and reduce inflammation. The treatment begins by cleansing and exfoliating the skin to remove impurities, oil, and dead skin cells. Some dermatologists may incorporate chemical peels and light therapy; and some might extract whiteheads, blackheads and cysts. Acne facials are not recommended if you suffer with severe acne.

Is it painful?

You may feel discomfort during extractions but overall, your facial shouldn’t hurt.

What results can be expected?

More research needs to be done before the full results of acne facials can be ascertained. However, if you suffer with mild comedonal acne (mostly whiteheads and blackheads), you may find an acne facial beneficial in reducing inflammation and improving the appearance of your skin. Always remember to seek out an experienced, qualified dermatologist to carry out your treatment.

How often should it be done?
