Apply a cart discount at checkout
Easily adjust the total cart value and maximize flexibility when checking out sales. Learn how to apply, update, and manage cart discounts.
Applying a cart discount
Additional discounts can be applied to the total cart value during checkout for an entire sale, with taxes and service charges recalculated accordingly after the discount is applied.
To apply a cart discount:
- Open the Calendar.
- Select an appointment and click Checkout or create a new sale and make any cart adjustments:
- Add additional items:
Click on Add to cart and use the category menu to select additional items to add to the cart, including Appointments, Services, Products, and Gift cards. - Edit item details:
Click on the item within the cart and adjust the Price, Quantity, Discount or Team member then Save. - Adjust service charges:
Any service charges that have been set up in your account will be highlighted. Click on these to adjust the Percentage and Rate value or click on the trash icon to remove it from the cart.
- Add additional items:
- From the cart, click on Quick actions (three dots) and choose Add cart discount.
- Enter the discount amount you want to apply and use the toggle to specify the value as a fixed rate or a percentage of the total cart value. The updated cart total will be displayed.
- Mark the checkbox if you want the discount to apply to service charges, where applicable.
- Click Add.
If items in the cart are already discounted, the additional cart discount will be applied on top of the already reduced price of those items.
You can track discounts in detail using the Discount summary report, applying the “Exclude cart discount” filter to customize your view.
Managing a cart discount
Applying, updating, or removing cart discounts can only be done during checkout.
Update a cart discount
To update a cart discount:
- From the open sale, click on Quick actions (three dots) in the cart.
- Select Edit cart discount.
- Adjust the amount, value, and service charge application as needed.
- Click Apply to save the changes.
Remove a cart discount
To remove a cart discount:
- From the open sale, select the trash icon next to the Cart discount.
- Click Yes, remove to confirm.
FAQs
- Percentage discounts recalculate automatically based on the updated cart total.
- Fixed-rate discounts are removed if the new cart total becomes negative.
- Manual discounts: These can be added to individual items within the cart by manually adjusting the item price.
- Pre-set discounts: These are flash sales, promotions and last-minute offers added to the individual items within the cart.
- Cart discount: This is a discount that can be applied to the total cart value when checking out a sale.
