Record marketing consent for clients
Record marketing consent for clients
Keep GDPR compliant by recording marketing consent for your clients in Fresha. Learn how to record marketing consent in Fresha to comply with GDPR requirements.
How collecting consent works
Under GDPR, you need explicit consent from clients before sending them marketing materials via SMS or email. You must be able to prove that clients have agreed to receive these messages, whether they are new or existing customers. If clients were automatically opted-in before May 25, 2018, they must re-consent to continue receiving communications. Consent should be separate from your privacy policy, and clients must be able to revoke it at any time.
Recording marketing consent
You can send various types of messages, including appointment reminders, booking changes, and marketing notification through SMS or email. For marketing messages, like rebooking reminders or deals, we recommend getting consent from clients at the time of their visit.
To update a client’s preferences in their profile:
- Open Clients and select Clients list.
- Click on the client to open their profile.
- Select Actions, then choose Edit client details.
- Click on Settings and scroll down to Marketing notifications.
- Check the boxes to indicate whether the client has agreed to receive marketing notifications via email or SMS.
- Click Save.
Clients can also update their preferences directly through their Fresha marketplace user accounts. Once they make changes, you won't be able to override their choices.

Service-related messages like appointment reminders do not require additional consent if they are covered under your privacy policy.
