What does it mean to be NF525 compliant?

NF525 is a French certification standard for point of sale (POS) systems. It helps prevent tax fraud by ensuring sales and payment records are secure, accurate, and cannot be altered without traceability.

As part of France's Finance Act 2025, businesses operating in France must provide specific business information to use NF525 compliant POS software, including:

  • SIRET A 14 digit number that uniquely identifies a business as a legal entity.
  • NAF A 4 digit and 1 letter code that identifies the primary economic activity of a business.
  • TVA A unique tax identification number assigned to a business for tax purposes.

If your business operates in France and uses checkout, you'll need to provide your SIRET, NAF and TVA details to continue using checkout and point of sale features.

What to do next?

To comply with French regulations, businesses operating in France must provide their SIRET and NAF details. Your TVA number must also be updated.

These requirements ensure transaction records can be linked to the correct legal entity and support fiscal reporting obligations.

For most businesses, there are no changes to how bookings, clients, or payments are managed. However, your business information must be complete and up to date to maintain access to checkout.

If you have multiple Billing profiles, you will need to update each billing profile to reflect each legal entity.

Update your billing information

  1. From the main menu on the left of your screen, go to Settings

  2. Under the Settings tab, select Billing.

  3. From the left menu panel, select Billing details to view your billing information.

  4. Click on Edit next to Billing address to update your billing details.

  5. Enter the following information where listed:

    1. SIRET Enter the 14 digit number that uniquely identifies your business.
    2. NAF Enter the 4 digit and 1 letter code that identifies your business.
    3. TVA Enter your unique tax identification number assigned to your business.
  6. Click Save in the top right of your screen to update your billing information.

Once you have updated your billing information, you will be able to check out appointments and process sales through Fresha.

These requirements help protect businesses and prevent fraud by ensuring all sales are recorded securely and in line with French regulations. To continue processing sales through checkout in Fresha, simply provide the required business information when requested.

FAQs

    • If you do not provide your VAT, SIRET and TVA details, you will lose access to checkout in Fresha. This means you won't be able to process payments, complete sales, check out appointments, or generate invoices through the platform.

These requirements are mandated by French regulations, and Fresha must collect this information to maintain NF525 compliance. Access to checkout will be restored once the required information has been submitted and verified.

Your NAF code is assigned when your business is registered and identifies your primary business activity. You can find it on your business registration documents or through the INSEE directory.

You may be required to provide business information for each legal entity operating through Fresha. We'll provide specific guidance if additional information is needed for multiple locations.

Your existing transaction history will remain available. However, you will not be able to process new sales through checkout until the required information has been provided and verified.
