The Nd:YAG laser emits light at a wavelength that can penetrate the nail and target the fungal cells beneath it. The heat generated by the laser can disrupt the fungal cells, leading 
to their destruction. This process is different from killing bacteria, as the laser specifically targets the fungal pathogens causing the infection.

Laser treatment for fungal nail infections is generally considered a viable option, especially for those who cannot tolerate oral antifungal medications or have not responded to topical treatments. However, the success rate can vary, and multiple sessions will be required to achieve the desired results.
Nd:YAG laser treatment is generally safe with minimal side effects. Some patients may experience mild discomfort. 
A course of treatment is necessary and results tend to be evident as the nail grows.
