Fysiotherapie maakt gebruik van beweging, manuele therapie en lichaamsbeweging om het herstel van letsel, ziekte of handicap te bevorderen. Als je naar een fysiotherapeut gaat, word je waarschijnlijk aangemoedigd om je herstel te ondersteunen door thuis vaste oefeningen te doen.

Welke aandoeningen kan fysiotherapie behandelen?

Fysiotherapie kan helpen bij het verbeteren van problemen met de botten, gewrichten en weke delen (bijv. rugpijn, sportblessures). Het kan ook helpen bij bewegingsproblemen als gevolg van hersen- of zenuwtrauma, waaronder beroertes en multiple sclerose. Als je last hebt van cystische fibrose, ademhaling en hart- en bloedsomloopproblemen, dan kun je ook baat hebben bij fysiotherapie.

Hoeveel fysiotherapiesessies heb ik nodig?

Dit hangt echt af van je behoefte en mate van vooruitgang. Kleine verwondingen kunnen 2-3 sessies nodig hebben om te verlichten; verwondingen aan zacht weefsel kunnen langer duren (6-8 weken) en ernstige of chronische aandoeningen kunnen twee of meer maanden duren. Fysiotherapie is altijd afgestemd op individuele behoeften, dus het is het beste om je fysiotherapeut te vragen hoeveel sessies je waarschijnlijk nodig hebt.

Wat kan ik verwachten tijdens een fysiotherapiesessie?

U krijgt een eerste consult voordat de behandeling begint, zodat uw fysiotherapeut precies kan begrijpen wat er mis is en hoe hij u het beste kan helpen. Tijdens de behandeling kan uw fysiotherapeut zijn handen gebruiken om pijn te verlichten en de beweging van uw lichaam te verbeteren, u oefeningen geven om uw mobiliteit en gezondheid te versterken en te stimuleren, en suggesties doen over veranderingen die u thuis of op het werk kunt aanbrengen om verder letsel te voorkomen of de houding te verbeteren.

Kan fysiotherapie thuis worden gedaan?

Het hangt ervan af: sommige fysiotherapie kan thuis worden gedaan (uw fysiotherapeut zal u waarschijnlijk toch oefeningen geven om thuis te oefenen); maar sommige behandelingen moeten mogelijk in de kliniek van uw fysiotherapeut worden uitgevoerd.
