Wat zijn de risico's van dry needling?

Bijwerkingen zijn niet gebruikelijk, maar kunnen bloeding of blauwe plekken op de naaldinsertieplaatsen omvatten. Wat is het verschil tussen dry needling en acupunctuur?

Acupunctuur is een oude Chinese geneeskunde die al eeuwenlang bestaat, in tegenstelling tot dry needling dat pas in de afgelopen jaren beschikbaar is. Zowel acupunctuur als dry needling zien dunne naalden ingebracht in de huid of spier om pijn te behandelen. Dry needling wordt echter alleen gebruikt om spierpijn te behandelen, terwijl acupunctuur een reeks fysieke en psychologische aandoeningen behandelt en blokkades in de energiestroom (qi) van het lichaam verwijdert om de algehele gezondheid te verbeteren.

Wat is dry needling?

Dry needling is een therapeutische techniek die wordt gebruikt door fysiotherapeuten en andere gekwalificeerde beoefenaars, waarbij fijne naalden worden ingebracht in triggerpoints (strakke spierknopen) om spanning los te laten, pijn te verminderen en de normale spierfunctie te herstellen. In tegenstelling tot acupunctuur is het gebaseerd op de westerse anatomie in plaats van TCM-principes.

Wat gebeurt er met je lichaam na dry needling?

Het inbrengen van naalden stimuleert de bloedstroom en celreparatie, maar droog needlen zal waarschijnlijk je spier onvrijwillig doen samentrekken en trillen. Dit is normaal en staat bekend als de lokale twitchrespons.

Welke aandoeningen behandelt dry needling?

Dry needling wordt vaak gebruikt voor nek- en schouderpijn, lage rugpijn, hoofdpijn, sportblessures, plantaire fasciitis en spierstijfheid. Het is bijzonder effectief voor het behandelen van myofasciale triggerpoints die gelokaliseerde of uitstralende pijn veroorzaken.
