Wat is dry needling?

Dry needling is een therapeutische techniek die wordt gebruikt door fysiotherapeuten en andere gekwalificeerde beoefenaars, waarbij fijne naalden worden ingebracht in triggerpoints (strakke spierknopen) om spanning los te laten, pijn te verminderen en de normale spierfunctie te herstellen. In tegenstelling tot acupunctuur is het gebaseerd op de westerse anatomie in plaats van TCM-principes.

Wat zijn de risico's van dry needling?

Bijwerkingen zijn niet gebruikelijk, maar kunnen bloeding of blauwe plekken op de naaldinsertieplaatsen omvatten. Je kunt ook duizeligheid, slaperigheid, misselijkheid en een toename van pijn ervaren gedurende 24-48 uur na je behandeling. Wat doet dry needling eigenlijk?

Dry needling omvat het inbrengen van fijne naalden in de huid en het spierweefsel om spier- en triggerpoint-pijn te verminderen.

Doet dry needling pijn?

Je kunt een lokale spiertrekkingsreactie voelen wanneer de naald een triggerpoint raakt: een korte, scherpe sensatie gevolgd door spierontspanning. De meeste personen ervaren enige spierpijn gedurende 24-48 uur na de behandeling, vergelijkbaar met pijn na het sporten.

Is dry needling de moeite waard?

Het bewijs is niet doorslaggevend, maar dry needling wordt verondersteld effectief te zijn bij het verminderen van lichte tot matige spierpijn.
