Gelnagels uitharden onder een UV-lamp; acrylverf begint te uitharden zodra ze aan lucht worden blootgesteld. Ze kunnen beide worden gebruikt om nagels te verlengen. Gels gaan 2 weken mee en moeten dan worden verwijderd; acrylnagels gaan 6-8 weken mee, maar moeten na 2-3 weken worden gevuld om hergroei te verbergen.
