Both can create a high-shine finish and both can be applied in salons or at home. Traditional nail polish dries in the air and can be removed at home using nail polish remover. Gel, on the other hand, needs to cure under a UV lamp and should be removed professionally in a salon to help preserve nail health.
Nail polish is a type of lacquer used to colour fingernails and toenails. It is typically made from nitrocellulose which is dissolved in butyl acetate or ethyl acetate. It forms a shiny film as the acetate solvent evaporates.
Soak a cotton wool pad in an over-the-counter nail polish remover, alcohol, or hand sanitizer, then place the pad on your nail for 10 seconds before rubbing it gently back and forth to remove the polish.
Depending on the quality of the polish you use, regular nail polish should last for around a week. It will then start to chip.
