Yes, absolutely. In fact, it’s common, particularly for those using regular nail polish or gel. If you’d like to give it a try, there are various different kits and pieces of equipment available to buy, but we always recommend having a manicure done by a professional to ensure you get the results you want.

Manicurists tend to begin a manicure by soaking your hands in warm water to soften the skin and nails. They then file, buff, and clean the cuticle, massage your hands with a moisturising cream, and apply a base coat of polish, before finishing with a layer of colour, top coat, and cuticle oil. Standard nail polish is left to dry naturally; shellac and gel polishes are cured under a UV lamp; acrylic nails cure in the natural air.

A manicure is a professional nail and hand care treatment that includes nail shaping and filing, cuticle care, hand soak, light massage, and polish application. Options include regular polish, gel, acrylic, dip powder, and nail art for a range of finishes and durability.

It greatly depends on the type of manicure you go for. Some nail technicians suggest having a manicure once a week, however Shellac, dip powder, acrylic, and gel manicures can last a lot longer. You can leave 2-3 weeks before getting your gel or Shellac manicures filled or redone; wait 3-6 weeks between dip powder manicures; and leave 6-8 weeks before having your acrylic nail manicure redone. If in doubt, ask your technician.
