What are the different types of hair treatments?

Detox – cleanses your hair from product and other impurities, improving the overall health of your hair and scalp. Some detox hair treatments can even stimulate hair growth. Relaxing – used to reduce and control curl and frizz, the results of relaxing treatments should last until your hair grows out. Toning – these treatments are for dyed hair and can help to neutralise warm or brassy tones, reinvigorate colour vibrancy, and add gloss. Glossing – leaves you with high-shine locks that can last for weeks.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with hair transplant surgery?

Yes, you’re likely to have scarring in the area(s) your graft(s) were taken. Your scalp may become sore and swell a few days after your transplant, and you’ll probably experience some scabbing. There’s also risk of bleeding, infection, and an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic.

Are hair treatments safe for all hair types?

No. If you have dry, over-processed, or damaged hair you may want to avoid treatments that could make your hair health worse or irritate your scalp. Ask your hair stylist to advise you on the treatments that would work best for you.

Is a hair transplant permanent?

Yes. But that doesn’t necessarily mean your post-healed hair transplant will look the same forever.

How does the hair transplant procedure work?

You’ll be awake during the procedure, but you’ll probably be sedated and given a local anaesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain. You’ll then either have a follicular unit transplant (FUT) or a follicular unit extraction (FUE).

During FUT, your doctor will remove a thin strip of skin with hair on it from the back of your head, cut it into hair grafts (pieces of skin containing 1-4 hairs), and insert it into incisions where you want your hair to grow. The area the skin was stripped from will be stitched to promote healing, but you’re likely to be left with a thin scar. If you opt for FUE, the back of your head will be shaved, grafts of single hairs will be removed and placed into incisions in your scalp. You'll be left with little scars where the hairs were removed. Hair transplants usually take a day to do, and you may need more than one session if a large area is being treated. You should see new hair appearing within the first six months.

How often should hair treatments be done?

It largely depends on the treatment. You can have keratin treatments up to 3 times a year, relaxing treatments 3-4 times a year, and hair toning once every 6-8 weeks.
