Make sure the hair on your back is at least a quarter of an inch long (0.6cm), so the wax can grip the hair effectively. Avoid sun exposure for at least a day before your treatment, and do not apply any oils or lotions to the area before the appointment. Back waxing can be a painful procedure, especially if you have sensitive skin. To minimize discomfort, take a pain reliever like ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment. You should also avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking before the appointment, as these can make your skin more sensitive. Exfoliate your skin 1-2 days before the appointment to help the wax grip the hair better and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. You can also ask your esthetician to use a numbing cream to help reduce pain.

You should aim to get your back waxed every 4-6 weeks. That is roughly how long it takes for the hair to grow back and be long enough to be waxed effectively.

Back waxing may cause some discomfort, particularly in denser hair areas. However, many clients find it quite tolerable with an experienced therapist. The sensation is brief and results last far longer than shaving.
