Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue.

Sports Massage is proven to release and reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation and encourage the removal of waste products such as lactic acid built up during sporting activities. In addition to the physical benefits, sports massage can help an athlete to mentally prepare for their activity or competition.



Deep Tissue / Sports Massage - Hazel Coombes

The practice of modern Reflexology was coined and developed during the 1930s by an American Physical Therapist, Eunice Ingham (1889-1974), who is often referred to as 'the mother of modern reflexology'.

Ingham adapted Dr William Fitgerald's theory of "Zone Therapy" and developed Reflexology as I practice it today.

She discovered that by placing the ten zones of the body (zone therapy) onto the feet, you could then place all the organs and areas of the body of a specific zone, within the corresponding zone on the foot. This is how Ingham developed 'footmaps'.
During a reflexology treatment 7,000 nerve endings in the feet are accessed when massaged, feeling deeply relaxing endorphins are released, enabling you to reach a truly relaxed state.
This triggers the parasympathetic system - the body's rest and restore function; now your body can heal and reach homeostasis.

This involves a consultation and assessment by our expertly trained staff using camera capture technology so we can identify foot structure. We will then help with the fitting of any shoes to make sure it fits around the heel, width of foot and toes.

I have also spent years working with adolescents, including those with ADHD & ASD, finding it difficult to navigate this turbulent time in their lives and trying to figure out who they are.

I have a masters in counselling and psychotherapy and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and am fully insured. This means I am regulated by ethical guidelines that ensure I provide the best standard of care possible. I am trained in Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and creative therapies. What this means for you is I can blend different styles of therapy to fit your way of thinking.

Sports therapist: A sports therapist’s skill set is mainly around the Musculoskeletal system, anything to do with the muscle, bones, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. The aim for a sports therapist is to try and return their client back to their full potential, whether that’s general day-to-day life or in sport. This can be through a combination of massage and rehabilitation. A sports therapist is trained to assess diagnose and rehabilitate most injuries. A sports therapist and a sports massage therapist work very closely in conjunction with one another. As part of an injury recovery program a sports therapist should perform an in-depth assessment of the injury, then produce a treatment plan, whether this is with massage involved or just exercises.

A ‘hands on’ treatment technique which involves the mobilising and manipulation of the bodies soft tissue and myofascial structures. It was originally developed for athletes to prevent and relieve injuries that can manifest after repeated strenuous physical activity or injury. However both athletes and non-athletes can gain physiological and psychological benefits from receiving sports massage therapy.

Sports massage often involves a fast-paced massage, stretching and other approaches, depending upon the sport in which you participate or where your pain is (remember though, you don’t have to be a regular sports athlete to have a sports massage). It can be tailored to be used as a pre-workout stretch and opportunity to warm up the muscles or used as a post-workout massage designed to reduce soreness and increase flexibility.
