Abdominal massage can support healthy breathing by relaxing the abdominal muscles, which allows the breath to move freely. So often we focus on holding the belly in, which can restrict the natural breathing pattern. At rest, the diaphragm sits as a dome below the rib cage. When we breathe in, it contracts and flattens to draw air into the lungs, which naturally pushes the abdominal contents down and outwards. This natural breathing pattern massages the internal organs by squeezing and releasing them if we allow that abdominal movement to happen. Hatha means ‘force’ and is more traditionally defined as ‘the yoga of force’, or ‘the means of attaining a state of yoga through force’. 
A yoga class  involves a set of physical postures (yoga poses) and breathing techniques , leading us into a meditative state of mind, connecting us with ourselves. 
The Hatha yoga practices were entirely focussed upon the breath and the means of controlling it. This way of practising has now come to represent just one of the branches of Hatha yoga – Pranayama. The breath control was essentially considered the ability to control prana or one’s own ‘life force’, and therefore the ability to control life.
