Permanent make-up or PMU is the insertion of pigments into the epidermis. This is done with a pen in which a needle/hygiene module is placed. Permanent makeup is similar in technique to tattooing, but the purpose is slightly different. A tattoo is also made deeper. Other words for permanent makeup include micro-pigmentation, dermatography, cosmetic tattooing, and cosmetic pigmentation.
