The muscles in the area of the trigger points are warmed through massage techniques and then acute pressure is applied with elbows or reinforced thumbs until the knot is released. What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling, also known as trigger point needling  involves the use of acupuncture type needles being introduced into trigger points in muscles to stimulate a ‘twitch’ response resulting in ‘release or relaxation’ of the trigger point A trigger point being a hyperirritable, taut band of muscle.  And what do we mean by dry?  Dry needling simply meaning one without medication.

This technique is used to restore normal muscle function and is to be used in conjunction with an exercise program which helps reduce muscle dysfunction and myofascial trigger point formation. This is targeted approach which aims to treat the underlying cause for the muscle dysfunction not just treating the result, eg pain.
