Wat is acupressuur en hoe werkt het?

Acupressuur is gebaseerd op de overtuiging dat in de traditionele Chinese geneeskunde onze gezondheid wordt beheerst door de energie (qi) die door bepaalde kanalen (meridianen) in ons lichaam stroomt. Wanneer de energie geblokkeerd of uit balans raakt, kunnen we lijden aan een slechte mentale of fysieke gezondheid. Acupressuur werkt door druk uit te oefenen op specifieke meridiaanpunten op ons lichaam, waardoor de qi kan stromen en het evenwicht kan herstellen. Er zijn meer dan 650 meridiaanpunten (ook wel acupunten genoemd) op het lichaam.

Wat zijn de voordelen van acupressuur?

Acupressuur kan helpen bij het verlichten van veel aandoeningen, variërend van rugpijn, vermoeidheid en angst, tot misselijkheid, hoofdpijn en immuundeficiënties.

Is acupressuur een veilige therapie?

Ja, maar als je een hoge bloeddruk hebt of zwanger bent, is het raadzaam om acupressuur te vermijden.

Hoe lang duurt een acupressuur en wat kan ik verwachten tijdens de sessie?

45-90 minuten. Je moet aan je acupressuurbeoefenaar uitleggen wat je wilt laten behandelen en, afhankelijk van de acupunten waartoe ze toegang moeten hebben, wordt je gevraagd om op een massagetafel te gaan zitten of liggen. Uw arts zal dan stevige, maar zachte druk uitoefenen op specifieke acupunten op uw lichaam, waardoor uw symptomen in het proces worden verlicht, de Qi-stroom wordt hersteld en de balans van uw lichaam wordt hersteld.

Zijn er mogelijke bijwerkingen of risico's verbonden aan acupressuur?

U kunt na een acupressuur pijn, duizeligheid en blauwe plekken ervaren. Het wordt normaal gesproken afgeraden om acupressuur te hebben als je zwanger bent. Als je een medische aandoening hebt, overleg dan met je arts voordat je een acupressuurafspraak maakt – hij of zij zal je kunnen adviseren of het geschikt voor je is.
