Implant-grade titanium, surgical steel, 14-karat gold, or niobium are the safest materials for a fresh nose piercing. Your piercer will recommend the appropriate starter jewellery: typically a flat-back stud or seamless ring of the correct gauge and diameter.

Everyone's different, but typically nostril piercings heal within 2-4 months; septum piercings take a little longer and should heal in 4-6 months.

Nostril piercings are the most popular nose piercing style. Browse and book the best nostril piercing studios near you on Fresha.

Titanium or 14 carat gold are two of the best metals for new nose piercings; other, lesser metals, could cause an allergic reaction. In terms of shape, small nose hoops or twist nose studs are best for new piercings. Nostril screws and fishtails are fun, but you should avoid wearing them while your piercing is still healing.

Follow the directions your piercer gives you. As a rule of thumb, you should clean your new nose piercing at least twice daily using cotton balls dipped in saline rinse.

If your nose piercing is new and you don’t like the nose jewelry used, you’re best off waiting at least 6 weeks before changing it for something different. If it’s new and uncomfortable or you’ve got an infection, go back to your piercer and ask them to tend to it. If you simply don’t like your nose piercing and want the hole to grow over, remove your nose jewelry.

A bit. Septum piercings will cause more initial discomfort than a nostril piercing, which is likely to just sting momentarily.
