When choosing a make-up artist, it's important to look at their portfolio and see if their style aligns with the type of service you're looking for. Read reviews and ask for recommendations from friends or family. Meet them in person ahead of time if you can, and make sure to communicate your needs and preferences clearly to ensure you get the look you want.

There are several types of makeup services available for different occasions, including:

• bridal make-up, designed to be long-lasting and accentuate the natural beauty of the bride.
• special occasion make-up for bolder dramatic looks
• editorial make-up for creative fashion shoots
• natural make-up that enhances your features while still looking natural

Your salon may offer more kinds of make-up services, so be sure to let your make-up artist know what occasion you need make-up for ahead of time.

Arrive with a clean, moisturized face, and bring inspiration photos so your make-up artist can give you the right look. If you have sensitive skin, bring your own make-up products to avoid any potential allergic reactions. And if you plan on changing outfits later in the day, wear loose-fitting clothing so you don't smudge your face when you get changed.

Fresha lists a wide range of makeup artists, all with verified client reviews and portfolio photos. Sort by rating to find the most recommended artists near you.

Book a makeup artist for weddings, formals, galas, parties, photoshoots, or any occasion where you want a flawless, long-lasting look. For weddings, a trial is strongly recommended 4–8 weeks before the event to agree on the final look.

Arrive with clean, moisturised skin. Bring any product preferences or inspiration images. If you have known skin sensitivities or allergies, let your artist know in advance. For event makeup, bring your outfit if possible so colours can be coordinated.
