Makeup Service FAQs

What types of make-up services are available and what is the difference between them?

There are several types of makeup services available for different occasions, including:

bridal make-up, designed to be long-lasting and accentuate the natural beauty of the bride.
special occasion make-up for bolder dramatic looks
editorial make-up for creative fashion shoots
natural make-up that enhances your features while still looking natural

Your salon may offer more kinds of make-up services, so be sure to let your make-up artist know what occasion you need make-up for ahead of time.

Can I book a makeup artist online?

Yes, with Fresha you can book makeup artist appointments online 24/7. Browse artists near you, choose your service and confirm instantly.

What does a professional makeup artist do?

A professional makeup artist applies cosmetics to create a desired look for events, occasions, or everyday wear. Services include bridal makeup, special occasion makeup, editorial, photoshoot, and glam looks, as well as makeup lessons for those wanting to learn techniques.

When should I book a professional makeup artist?

Book a makeup artist for weddings, formals, galas, parties, photoshoots, or any occasion where you want a flawless, long-lasting look. For weddings, a trial is strongly recommended 4–8 weeks before the event to agree on the final look.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with make-up application?

While make-up application is generally safe, there are a few potential side effects to be aware of. Allergic reactions to certain ingredients can occur, and sharing make-up products can increase the risk of infection. It's important to use clean brushes and sponges and to avoid applying make-up on open wounds or irritated skin.

What are the best-rated makeup artists near me?

Fresha lists a wide range of makeup artists, all with verified client reviews and portfolio photos. Sort by rating to find the most recommended artists near you.

How do I choose the right make-up artist for my needs?

When choosing a make-up artist, it's important to look at their portfolio and see if their style aligns with the type of service you're looking for. Read reviews and ask for recommendations from friends or family. Meet them in person ahead of time if you can, and make sure to communicate your needs and preferences clearly to ensure you get the look you want.
