Everyone’s unique, so it really depends on what you prefer. A hot stone massage is a regular massage that incorporates hot stones to allow for deeper massage penetration. Both a regular massage and a hot stone massage will leave you feeling relaxed, so why not try both and decide which one you think is best.

Hot stone massage is suitable for most people who enjoy warmth and deep relaxation. It is not recommended for those with certain skin conditions, cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, or during pregnancy. Always inform your therapist of any health conditions before booking.

A hot stone massage is a Swedish (regular) massage that uses hot volcanic stones. The stones are placed on different acupressure points on your body to help warm and relax your muscles, allowing your masseuse to apply deeper pressure and maximise muscle tension release. The stones may be placed along your spine, on your stomach, chest, face, hands, feet and/or toes. Hot stone massages are used to treat pain and to promote relaxation. Cold stones may be used too, to aid detoxing and healing.

Because hot stone massages release toxins in your muscles, it’s common to experience dizziness, nausea, tiredness, and headaches. You may need to urinate more often, too as a result of your lymph flushing out toxins. You can alleviate the side effects by drinking plenty of water. You shouldn’t experience any burning or negative side effects if you book with an experienced professional.

A hot stone massages warms your muscles to allow your masseuse to work them more deeply. A deep tissue massage applies repeated pressure to sore muscles, working your them without any heat. Both result in less muscle tension, but which one works best for you is down to your personal preference.

Around an hour. This gives the stones time to ease your aches and pains so you leave deeply relaxed. Always tell your therapist about any medical conditions you have, particularly if you suffer with heart disease or high blood pressure.
