Are there any side effects or risks associated with hair transplant surgery?

Yes, you’re likely to have scarring in the area(s) your graft(s) were taken. Your scalp may become sore and swell a few days after your transplant, and you’ll probably experience some scabbing. There’s also risk of bleeding, infection, and an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic.

How does the hair transplant procedure work?

You’ll be awake during the procedure, but you’ll probably be sedated and given a local anaesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain. You’ll then either have a follicular unit transplant (FUT) or a follicular unit extraction (FUE).

The area the skin was stripped from will be stitched to promote healing, but you’re likely to be left with a thin scar. If you opt for FUE, the back of your head will be shaved, grafts of single hairs will be removed and placed into incisions in your scalp. You'll be left with little scars where the hairs were removed. Hair transplants usually take a day to do, and you may need more than one session if a large area is being treated. You should see new hair appearing within the first six months.

How often should hair treatments be done?

It largely depends on the treatment. You can have keratin treatments up to 3 times a year, relaxing treatments 3-4 times a year, and hair toning once every 6-8 weeks. You can enjoy scalp treatments every 2-4 weeks, detox and hot oil treatments once every 1-2 weeks, and moisturising treatments once a week or more.
