Gel Nails FAQs
Gel nails cost between ZAR 30 and ZAR 370 in Rural Eastern Cape.

Although gel manicures look beautiful, they can cause your natural nails to become brittle. The American Academy of Dermatology reports that repeated use of gel nails can increase the risk of skin cancer and the premature ageing of skin on the hands.
Gel and shellac nails both cure under UV light, but their composition is different. Gel nail polish is a lacquer made from acrylic monomers and oligomers; shellac polish is part gel, part regular nail polish, and is a patented brand by Creative Nail Design (CND). Both give a high shine and long-lasting finish.
Gel nails tend to give a more natural and glossier finish than acrylic nails; they are cured under a UV lamp and last for around 2 weeks. Acrylic nails are stronger than gels and start to cure as soon as they’re exposed to air; they generally last for 6-8 weeks but will need fills after 2 weeks to hide regrowth. Both can be used to lengthen nails and both can damage your natural nails.
Once every 2 weeks. Gel nails cure (harden) in UV light; this means they continue to cure in natural sunlight. The longer you keep your polish on, the longer it cures and the harder it is to remove. To reduce the risk of stripping and damaging your nails, it’s recommended that you book in with an experienced nail technician to remove and redo your gel nail polish every 2 weeks.
