What does a balayage do to your hair?

Balayage is a hair colouring technique used by colourists to hand-paint (or sweep) dye or lightener onto the midshaft of your hair. The colour is typically a few shades lighter than your base colour, and becomes denser towards the ends of your hair. Balayage is applied without foils and results in a sun-kissed ombre effect that’s more natural than traditional foil highlights.

Is balayage better than highlights?

It depends on the look you’re going for. Balayage leaves hair with natural-looking, sun-kissed accents, whereas foil highlights are more structured. Both offer depth of colour.

How long does balayage last for?

Several months. Unlike traditional highlights which need roots touched-up every 6-8 weeks, balayage grows out more seamlessly, and without strong regrowth lines. This means you can wait much longer between colouring appointments.

How much does balayage cost?

The costs depends on whether you opt for a half head or full head of balayage; but on average you should expect to pay about $245.

Can you wash your hair after balayage?

No, not straight away. You should wait around three days (72 hours) after a balayage treatment before washing your hair. This gives the pigments time to settle. Your colourist may advise which products you should use to keep your locks healthy and lustrous.
