With our experience, expertise and facilities we are pleased to be able to offer to groom any small dog from designer breeds and tender geriatrics to tea-cup toys and tiny pups.

We are the small dog specialists in this area (regrettably, we can no longer groom dogs over 8 Kg).

Our forte is the preparation of dogs for stills photography and film work where attention to minute detail is paramount.

Groomer Training Full Day

I have called this a "type" simply because there are very few Parsons Jack Russells out there ... but a great number of brilliant "farmers ratters" types that could do with a jolly good tidy up or clip off to look smart and smell sweet.  Recomended schedule 6-12 weeks for coat but teeth need to be on a 6-weeks or less schedule to be considered "maintenance" so you'll need to book an interim teeth session between your grooms.

I can't see my dog listed

Maintaining the iconic, fluffy coat of your Bichon Frise is crucial for their health and appearance. Regular brushing and combing (3-4 times/week) is essential to prevent tangles and mats. Bathe at home weekly using Wildwash Shampoo. Remember, a well-cared-for coat equals a happy and vibrant Bichon Frise!  Recommended schedule 4-6 weeks.

Bichon Frise

Cairns and Scotties have been "lumped" together here, even though they are very different breeds of dog.  This is because they tend to be in a similar weight range, have a similar wilful/stubborn (🤣) temperment and take me approximately the same amount of time to do.  Recomended schedule is 6-8 weeks. Teeth need doing every 6 weeks regardless so you'll most likely find yourself needing a top-up clean to stay on schedule. 

Cairns or Scottish Terriers

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. If the split is 50/50 you should get a wavy coated dog with a generally easy to maintain coat, however, many breeders infuse more poodle making the cross 75% or more poodle. This makes the coat denser, requiring more work and more product to get the sparkling finish you'd expect from a Centre Stage groom.  Recomended schedule therefore is 4-6 weeks. 

Cavapoo

contains Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Poodle and Bichon Frise. Will most likely have a denser curlier coat than a straight Cavapoo which generally involves more work and products for bathing and drying. 

Cavapooshon

AKA the Landshark of the grooming world (🤣) these dainty little dogs are often overlooked as requiring professional grooming services.  Indeed, I probably wouldn't want to put my Chi in for grooming if there were also large breeds in the salon, after all, they're less than a mouthful for an Akita.  Because of their structure, the groomer needs to be incredibly careful with this breed as they are (like Yorkies and Maltese) rather fragile and need delicate but experienced handling.  Recommended shedule 6-12 weeks for coats, 6 weeks or less for teeth. 

Chihuahua

I'm defining a Cockapoo (Cockerpoo) F1, F2, F1b etc as any cross of poodle and ENGLISH Cocker Spaniel.  However, where more poodle has been infused the coat will be appreciably denser which requires more time and product to wash, dry and style and this is likely to bump the price up. Ditto the use of an AMERICAN Cocker Spaniel to produce the crosss, which, even as an F1 will have a denser softer coat than its English counterpart.  Recommended grooming schedule is 4-6 weeks. 

Cockapoo

I've split the working and show cockers into two groups as they are, to all intents and purposes two different breeds of dog today.  The lower energy, longer coated show dog is more likely to arrive with matts and tangles than his shorter coated counterpart. This is a dog that generally requires plenty of specialist products before you can comb and brush through that silky coat and create the work of art that is the Show Cocker.  Recommended schedule 4-6 weeks. 

Cocker Spaniel (Show)

I've split the working and show cockers into two groups as they are, to all intents and purposes two different breeds of dog today.  The high energy, shorter coated working dog is more likely to arrive with ticks in the summer and his coat is more far more likely to be booby-trapped with brambles and thorns!  This is a dog that generally requires a short athletic trim with no fancy frills or furnishings that will become entangled on walks or at work.  Clipping around every single part of the dog's body takes time, especially if he resembles a kangeroo on crack.  This is not a job for the feint hearted!

Cocker Spaniel (Working)

I confess to having a terrible softspot for this breed.  Recommended schedule is 6-12 weeks for the coat and every 6 weeks for teeth and nails.

Before we'll put you and your dogs on the books, we need to meet you both.  At this appointment we will discuss your dog's current condition and your expectations for the groom as well as offer advice on coat care, products and grooming equipment you'll need to maintain your dog at home.

Consultation / Meeting

Many dogs have an understandable phobia when it comes to nails and this is not at all surprising given that many vets and groomers see "quicking" a nail (cutting the nerve that runs down the inside of the nail) as inevitable.  This is extremely painful for the dog.  Here at Centre Stage we work hard to restore the trust that has been destroyed, we only use nail cutters if the nail has curled right round and we can't get a grinder under it, preferring instead to use a nail grinder from the outset to produce a blunt, round ended nail that is less likely to scratch if the dog jumps up.  

This appointment may well take more than 15 minutes for the inital visits.

Nail Grinding (Top Up)

I am not a vet. However, I have got some pretty spectacular "before and after" photos of dogs teeth that I have cleaned so far.  If your dog's teeth are too far gone, I will refer you straight back to your vet for a full dental under general anaesthetic and will maintain those teeth that the vet leaves your dog with!

The initial sessions are 45 minutes long and your dog may require several of these before moving on to a maintenance schedule.  

Dogs fed on a kibble diet will require more intensive cleaning and more frequent visits than dogs on a raw diet. 

It goes without saying that if I discover anything that worries me in your dog's mouth I'll be sending you straight to your vet for further investigation.  This may include but isn't limited to fractured teeth, lose or wobbly teeth, slab fractures and tumours.

Teeth Ultrasound and Clean (initial sessions)

Once your dog's teeth have reached a certain point we can move on to this service - the regular maintenance clean.  This needs to be done every 6 weeks or less.  If you go over the 6 week period you'll be charged for another full teeth clean.

Before committing to training as a dog groomer, it is pretty vital to see if you'll actually like doing this as a job.  It is pretty far removed from playing with fluffy dogs all day and you may find some elements more challenging than you realise.   You are therefore invited to watch for a session, 9 til 12 or 1 til 4, to get a feel for what we do 'behind the scenes'.
