Cupping is the process of applying cups of some kind, to various points on the body and removing the air inside the cups to form a vacuum. 
However ‘Hijama’ refers to only one particular type of cupping therapy - which in English is known as ‘wet cupping’ or ‘bleeding cupping’. In which a surgical instrument is used to scrape the skin and the vacuum cup is then applied to collect the blood. It is the oldest, most frequently used and often the moist effective method of cupping.

If you research this type of cupping, you will notice the amount of athletes, body builders use this method of cupping to support their sport.

Reading this post, for some of you the very mention of the word ‘Blood’, puts you into a spin. However, from personal experience I was pleasantly surprised how gentle the procedure was. I can’t tell you how much I was dreading taking part myself even though I knew the benefits, I just didn’t like the idea of blood being drawn. So one Jesse to another…..it is NOT painful!
