A silk press is a non chemical straightening technique for natural hair. Unlike a relaxer or dry perm, a silk press does not permanently alter the hair's curl pattern. The hair is temporarily straightened using heat and will return to its natural texture after it is washed or exposed to enough moisture.

The process typically includes:

1. Cleansing the hair with a shampoo.

2. Conditioning and deep conditioning to restore moisture.

3. Applying a heat protectant.

4. Blow-drying the hair until it is fully dry.

5. Straightening the hair with a flat iron in small sections to achieve a smooth, silky finish.
The results are:

Silky, smooth, and shiny hair.

Natural movement and body.

A temporary straight style that usually lasts 1–3 weeks, depending on humidity, hair care, and the client's lifestyle.

No permanent change to the hair's natural curl pattern when performed correctly with appropriate heat.

A silk press is ideal for clients who want the look of straight hair without
