All skin types can be treated. It is highly beneficial on clients over 30 years of age as a way of exercising the skin. Excellent on acne skin types as long as there are no active lesions present. This technique is safely performed by using a specialised sterile surgical instrument. After preparation the skin is held tight and gentle scraping methods at an angle of 45 degrees, dead skin is scrapped off. Dermaplaning is performed only on the face. Salicylic acid is the only member of the BHA family. It is lipophilic (fat soluble), therefore it can penetrate the philosebaceous unit. It is a common ingredient in anti-acne formulas.

Salicylic acid is anti-inflammatory due to its ability to inhibit Arachidonic Acid (omega 6 fat that worsens acne inflammation).

Salicylic acid leaves a white precipitate on the skin and is confined to the epidermis only.
