If a dog's teeth are in very poor condition—such as heavy tartar buildup, advanced gum disease, or loose teeth—Emmi-Pet may not be effective on its own. While Emmi-Pet is great for routine maintenance and plaque prevention, it may not address more severe dental issues.

In such cases, a professional dental cleaning by a veterinarian is recommended. Vets can perform scaling, polishing, and other procedures that may be necessary to treat more advanced dental problems. Once the dog's teeth are in better condition, Emmi-Pet can be used for ongoing maintenance.
