As a tattoo laser is moved over your skin, it emits powerful pulses of light energy. This goes into your skin in a harmless way, and impacts the ink particles, causing them to break into smaller pieces as a result of the heat generated by the laser. When the particles become small enough, they absorb back into the body and removed harmlessly by the immune system. Different ink colours need different strengths of light in order to break apart, so your technician will use a patch test to find out what intensity to use during your laser removal session. In order to completely remove a tattoo, you will need to come back for further sessions. The number of sessions needed varies depending on the size and colour of your tattoo.
