Please note that while there is no time limit for Assessments (although time does affect your score), this is a three hour lesson and your Educator needs 15 minutes at the end to mark your Assessment. You must be finished with 15 min to spare. 

Your Educator will, as a legal requirement of their shift, be taking a 45 min break between this and any other class happening on this day. If you are worried about time, you can book two lessons back to back and continue after the break - just be prepared to also take a 45 min break in the middle. 

You must BOOK the second lesson or a desk will not be reserved for you and if the class is full you will be unable to continue. 

If this is the last lesson of the day, your Educator will not stay late to mark your Assessment, you must be finished with 15 min to spare.

5. Manicure Assessment

This one-on-one Zoom session is exclusively for students enrolled in the Online Learning Trial and is included as part of their $99 trial enrolment.

During the session, your mentor will:
– Watch you perform a traditional polish manicure on yourself
– Offer real-time tips and feedback to improve your technique
– Answer any questions about the full Foundation Certificate course
– Help you experience what online learning with Monaco really feels like

Please do not book this session unless you are currently enrolled in the Online Learning Trial. If you’re a full course student or interested in booking a standard mentoring session, please choose a different service.

It's up to you, but this is only your second ever time prepping the nail for Acrylic, and it's your first ever time learning forms, extension application, perimeter filing, surface filing, apexes and so on. We highly recommend that you book in a morning and an afternoon, or an afternoon and an evening on the same day so that you have 6 total hours to work on this lesson. You can book two of this lesson in order to reserve your space and just put in the notes that that's what your doing. You don't HAVE to, but it will be MUCH easier if you do.

1. Full Set of Pre-Formed Soft Gel Extensions

Pre-Formed Soft Gel Extensions

You must prepare (BEFORE your lesson) at least 10 tips by applying an overlay of BIAB, Acrylic, HardGel or PolyGel and then 3 layers of gel polish, all different colours (eg one yellow, one blue, one red).

The overlay should be contoured before gel application as an uneven surface will make achieving the lesson goals far more difficult.

During the lesson, you will be asked to safely remove all 3 layers of gel polish from the surface of all 10 tips, with the goal being to demonstrate the ability to control which layer of colour you are removing, (only removing one colour at a time) by the end of the lesson. If you are not able to demonstrate this skill you may be asked to repeat this lesson. 

You will also be asked to demonstrate shortening the tip length of all 10 tips and working at the back of the overlay close to the tip (what would be natural nail) without indenting the tip itself on all 10 tips.

This is a lesson, not an exam, we don't expect perfection, just learning!

1. Practice On A Tip

You require a model that already has a long Overlay or Extensions (BIAB, Acrylic, Hard Gel or PolyGel) with at least 14 days of growth.

During the lesson, you will be asked to complete a full backfill service (ten nails) from start to finish, using an E-File to remove gel polish, remove lifting, shorten nails, and contour file.

2. Backfill with an E-File

Different from how we run assessments for other modules, the E-File Exam is one-on-one, either online or in-person.

Please phone us on (09) 574 5573 to confirm that the lesson slot you want to choose is able to be converted to one on one before booking (basically, we will just check that it is empty, or advise the slots that are, and then close the slot off to other bookings once you are booked in yourself). 

During the exam, you will be asked to complete a full backfill service on 10 nails. The nails can be either BIAB, Acrylic, Hard Gel or PolyGel but must have been applied 2 weeks prior to the exam AND have a minimum of 2mm growth.

During this full standard backfill service, you are required to use the E-File to remove gel polish, remove lifting, shorten the nail and contour the nail as applicable to the full service being provided. One attempt at the exam is included in your course fees for free. If you need to resit your exam, you will need to do so at an extra cost of $45/hr.

3. E-File Assessment - MUST BE ONE-ON-ONE
