Collect payments using a card terminal
With your card terminal in hand, you're ready to process in-store payments. Learn how to start processing payments using your card terminal.
Getting started
To start processing payments with your card terminal, you’ll first need to:
- Activate the terminal.
- Create a new sale or check out an appointment.
Accepted payment methods
Fresha card terminals offer flexible payment options to suit your needs, with availability depending on your location. Find a breakdown of the payment methods supported in each region.
General payment methods
The following payment methods are accepted on all Fresha card terminals:
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
- Chip & PIN
Regional payment methods
Fresha card terminals also support the following payment methods in specific regions:

In Canada, Interac® card transactions can only be refunded on the same day they are processed. For refunds after that day, the client will need to select a different payment method.
Fresha card terminals in New Zealand only accept contactless payments (like PayWave and PayPass). Card insert, swipe payments, and EFTPOS/Cashflow card payments are not supported at this time.
Processing payments
You’ll be prompted with steps to check out appointments directly on the card terminal.
To process a payment:
- Open the Calendar.
- Select the appointment you’d like to raise an invoice for.
- Click Checkout to be redirected to the New sale page.
- Add any products, services, memberships, and gift cards to the cart.
- Click on the items in your cart to apply a discount, change the service provider, or the team member who raised, invoiced, and took the payment.
- Click Continue.
- Once you’re happy with your changes, click Charge and select the payment method Card terminal.
- On the terminal, clients can add a tip or they can skip this step by selecting No tip on the card terminal.
- Once confirmed, they can follow the instructions on the card terminal to complete the transaction.
You can choose when to ask clients if they’d like to leave a tip in your Tip settings.
FAQs
Fresha card terminals accept contactless, signature, and chip and PIN payments from all major debit and credit cards including Visa, MasterCard and American Express. They also support digital payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
No, card terminals are designed for in-store payments directly from clients. Payments can only be taken via chip and PIN, contactless, signature, and digital wallets. Clients can manage their card details through their Fresha client account.
Yes, you can process split payments using a card terminal and along with any other available payment method. However, they do not support two separate card payments for one appointment. Select Split payment at checkout and, choose "Card terminal" and the alternative method.
Yes, clients can leave a tip if you have enabled this in your tip settings. You can adjust these settings using our guide here.
Service charges can be added to the appointment through your workspace. This will then be included in your total appointment cost when charging your client using a card terminal.
If you're unable to process a payment, performing a hard reset usually resolves most connectivity issues.
Fresha terminals support card payments of up to 99,999.99 in your local currency when the card is inserted. However, each client’s payment card may also have its own transaction limit, which is determined by their card provider.
For contactless payments, the limit is set by the client’s card issuer and cannot be adjusted from your Fresha terminal. If the payment exceeds the contactless limit, the client will need to insert their card and complete the transaction using chip and PIN.
