Mapp & Hession Pharmacy was founded in 1984 by Greg Mapp. Born in Murwillumbah, Greg had been well known in town and had already worked in other pharmacies in Murwillumbah. Greg was joined in 1994 by Paul Hession, another Murwillumbah born local who had also worked at another pharmacy in town in the past. Greg and Paul had very similar goals and ideas about the way pharmacy should be practiced in Australia. A passion for natural therapies and a desire to remove the barriers between the pharmacist and the customer, lead to a re-fit of the pharmacy in 1996. The re-fit involved the installation of one of Australia's first dedicated herbal dispensaries. Greg has a Clinical Diploma in Nutrition and has lectured in natural therapies at Griffith University and Paul is a member of the Australian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. Greg and Paul were involved in the national planning committee of the new movement of 'forward pharmacy'. This lead to the removal of the traditional raised dispensary and the addition of a dispensing counter in the store, so customers could interact with the pharmacist much more easily and get easier access to the information they required. We are proud that the pharmacy ideals we put in place over 30 years ago are still practiced in the pharmacy today. Anyone who wants to see a pharmacist has easy access to them and we ensure that all our staff has the latest training to add to their many years of experience.
